Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Begin your journey in the vibrant city of Kathmandu as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport. Upon arrival, a representative from Ravel Roads will be waiting outside the airport to warmly welcome you. After a brief introduction, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your trip.   Once checked in, the remainder of the day is yours to relax and unwind, allowing you to settle in and explore at your own pace. Later in the evening, If time permits evening Arathi at Pashupathinath Temple and enjoy a delightful dinner at the hotel, followed by a restful overnight stay, preparing for the adventures that lie ahead.   Altitude: 1400m Meals: D Distance: Inside Kathmandu Valley

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

The temple visit will commence at approximately 8:00 AM. Our first destination is the revered Pashupathinath Temple, where we aim to arrive before 9:00 AM to witness the sacred aarti ceremony in the main temple. This spiritual experience is deeply enriching, as devotees gather to chant prayers and offer their reverence to Lord Shiva.   After exploring Pashupathinath, we will continue our journey to visit other significant temples within the complex, ranging from small shrines to grand structures with intricate carvings and religious significance. Following this, our tour takes us to the Sleeping Vishnu Temple (Jal Narayan Temple), known for its majestic statue of Lord Vishnu reclining in a serene pose. We will also visit the Guheshwari Mata Temple, an important pilgrimage site believed to be associated with Goddess Sati.   Upon completing the temple visits, we will drive back to the hotel, allowing ample time for relaxation and preparation for the next day’s travel to the Nepal-China border. If you wish to purchase any essentials for the journey ahead, a visit to Thamel, Kathmandu’s famous marketplace, is highly recommended. Here, you will find an extensive selection of trekking and adventure gear, souvenirs, and local crafts.   As the day comes to an end, we will gather in the evening for a briefing session, where all group members will be formally introduced. This session will provide important information regarding the upcoming travel plans, ensuring that everyone is well-prepared. Day 03: Discovering the Treasures of Kathmandu

  Begin the day with a delicious breakfast, then set out to explore some of Kathmandu Valley’s most significant cultural and spiritual sites.

  • Doleshwor Mahadev Temple: Our first stop is the sacred Doleshwor Mahadev Temple, believed to be the 'shir' (head) part of Lord Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. This revered temple holds immense religious significance for devotees.
  • Kailashnath Mahadev Temple (Sanga): Next, we visit Sanga, home to the world’s tallest Shiva statue. This magnificent structure stands atop a mountain, located approximately 20 km from Kathmandu, offering breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere for spiritual reflection.
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square: Finally, we explore the historic Bhaktapur Durbar Square, one of the best-preserved cultural heritage sites in Kathmandu. This UNESCO-listed area showcases traditional Newari architecture, ancient temples, and vibrant local culture.

Day 04: Fly Kathmandu to Lhasa

Begin your day with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel before heading to Kathmandu airport for your flight to Lhasa, Tibet.   Upon arrival at Gonggar International Airport, our local representative will greet you and escort you to your pre-booked hotel. The scenic drive from the airport to Lhasa takes approximately 1.5 hours, offering glimpses of Tibet’s stunning landscapes.   Spend the rest of the day at leisure, allowing your body to acclimate to the high altitude and soaking in the tranquil atmosphere of this remarkable destination.   Trip Details: - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 3,656m - Distance Covered: 600km (flight) + 60km (drive from airport to hotel) - Accommodation: 3-star hotel, shared basis A day of travel and transition, preparing you for the incredible experiences awaiting in Lhasa!  

Day 05: Exploring Lhasa’s Cultural Treasures

After breakfast, set out on a fascinating sightseeing tour of Lhasa, a city rich in history and spiritual significance.   Begin with a visit to the iconic Jokhang Temple, a revered site featuring three floors, an open roof, and intricately designed chambers and chapels. This sacred temple is considered the spiritual heart of Tibet.   Next, wander through the vibrant Barkhor Street, located in the historic quarter of Lhasa near Jokhang Temple. This bustling marketplace is a must-visit, offering a glimpse into local life, traditional Tibetan culture, and colorful souvenir shops.   Later, drive past the majestic Potala Palace, an architectural marvel standing at 400 meters, once the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. After breakfast, gather in the hotel lobby and prepare for a picturesque drive to Shigatse, the traditional capital of Tsang Province. As Tibet’s second-largest city in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), Shigatse is rich in heritage and significance.   Upon arrival, visit the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, a grand establishment founded by the First Dalai Lama in 1447. This monastery holds deep historical and religious importance, making it a must-visit destination. Later, continue your journey to Shigaste, where you will settle in for an overnight stay at your hotel.   Trip Details: - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 4,050m - Distance Covered: 425km (approximately 7-hour drive) - Accommodation: 3-star equivalent hotel, shared basis This leg of the journey offers a blend of scenic beauty, cultural immersion, and historical Exploration.

 

 

Your route today will take you across beautiful, over 5000-meter-high passes. You are kept busy by various activities, such as lakes and nomads pursuing tens of thousands of yaks and sheep, while you drive across Tibet's mountainous and sandy terrain. By late afternoon, you will have crossed the Brahmaputra River and be at the characteristic Tibetan and Chinese town of Sag for the evening.   Altitude: 4400m Meals: B, L, D Distance: 470km – 9 hours  

Today marks an important milestone as we travel to the sacred Lake Manasarovar, one of the highest spiritual lakes in the world. The day begins with breakfast at 7:30 AM, followed by a scenic drive.   Before reaching Mayumla Pass (4,900m), we will pause for permit formalities and lunch before continuing through Prayang County. The route today is comfortable and picturesque, with several short stops for permit checks before reaching our guesthouse near Lake Manasarovar.   Upon arrival, take time to pray, reflect, and admire the stunning view of Mount Kailash, visible from here if the weather is clear. After completing immigration formalities, we transfer to Hor Que, where we change vehicles to local buses operated by Tibetan authorities for the Lake Manasarovar and Kailash region.   During the drive, we complete approximately 70% of the Lake Manasarovar circumambulation, with the remaining part completed after the Kailash Trek. The evening at Lake Manasarovar is a deeply spiritual experience, with breathtaking views of both the lake and Mount Kailash. You may also find serene spots for meditation near the holy lake.   Night Stay: Dormitory accommodation at a guesthouse.   Traveler Tips: - If you wish to visit Lake Manasarovar at night, inform your guide beforehand. - Travel in a small group with a local guide or Sherpa for safety. - Dress warmly, as nighttime temperatures can be extremely cold. - Due to limited electricity, carry a whistle and torch for nighttime outings. Day 09: Lake Manasarovar to Darchen

Today morning, we wake up comfortably and we will find a good place for holy bath in Lake Manasarovar for all our pilgrims. A shower tent will be arranged for women near the lake for changing clothes. You may also perform puja, havan, and other rituals as per your preference. Our crew will be available to assist as needed.   Following the bath, meditation, and meal, we begin a short drive to Darchen, the base of Mount Kailash. En route, enjoy breathtaking views of Rakshas Tal (Demon’s Lake), situated opposite Lake Manasarovar. We will stop briefly for photographs before continuing to Darchen.   Darchen is the main administrative hub of the Kailash region and serves as the base camp for Mount Kailash circumambulation (Kora). If time permits, you may explore its small local market, then rest and prepare for the upcoming trek.   Trip Details: - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 4,575m - Distance Covered: 114km - Accommodation: Shared hotel or guesthouse        

Day 10: First Day of Mount Kailash Circumambulation (Kora)

Today, we wake up early, have a light breakfast, and drive to Tarboche, the starting point of our trek to Dirapuk Monastery.   Pilgrims will pass through Yam Dwar, a sacred gateway, before beginning the trek.   Trekking Details: - Total Distance: 18km (6km by bus from Darchen to Tarboche + 12km trek) - Terrain: Mostly flat with some gentle inclines, but high altitude makes walking difficult. The trek usually takes 4 to 6 hours, so slow-paced walking is advised.   Alternative Routes: - East Route: The main pilgrimage trail with a bridge over the Lha-Chu River. - West Route: Requires removing shoes to cross the river.   Hiring Horses/Ponies & Porters: - Available at Tarboche, arranged directly with Tibetan guides on personal payments. - The same horse and porter will accompany you during the trek.   Our yak handlers will carry kitchen equipment and other logistics for the trek. Travelers should bring their own snack packs (fruit, juice, energy bars, biscuits) and hot drinking water from the kitchen before starting the trek.   Upon reaching Dirapuk, where the weather is very cold, our Tibetan guide will have pre-arranged accommodation for immediate check-in. Dirapuk offers incredible views of the North Face of Mount Kailash, making it a perfect spot for capturing breathtaking photos and selfies.   Due to low temperatures, dinner will be light and quick (khichdi, soup, etc.), and then we rest for the night.   Trip Details:   - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Packed Lunch/snacks, Light Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 5,210m - Distance Covered: 6km drive + 13km trek - Accommodation: Shared lodge This marks the beginning of an unforgettable spiritual journey around Mount Kailash  

Important Information for Pilgrims Adjusting Their Plans Pilgrims who decide to opt out of the first or second day of the trek for any reason must arrange and pay for their own accommodation and services in Darchen.   For those choosing not to proceed to Dirapuk, the journey will conclude at Yama Dwar, where they can have a close darshan of Mount Kailash’s South Face before returning to Darchen. They will stay in Darchen for two nights, awaiting the return of fellow travelers who continue the trek around Mount Kailash.

         

Day 11: Second Day of Mount Kailash Circumambulation (Kora)

Rise before dawn to witness the breathtaking spectacle of Golden Kailash, as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the sacred peak. Take a moment to capture this stunning view, enjoy a light breakfast, and prepare for the challenging trek towards Zuthulphuk.   Traveler Tip: Don't forget to carry your packed lunch and hot drinking water before setting out on the trek. This day is regarded as the most demanding of the journey. After trekking through the grasslands of Jarok Donkhang and passing the sky burial site of Shiva Tsal (5,330m), the ascent begins toward the highest point of the trek—Dolma La Pass (5,630m).   Challenging Terrain: - The steep ascent and descent (approximately 3km) is the most difficult section. - The path is covered in rocks and loose stones, making footing treacherous. - Strong winds pick up in the late afternoon, so crossing the pass earlier in the day is highly recommended.   Once past Dolma La Pass, you’ll encounter the serene Gauri Kund (Parvati Kund), a spiritually significant lake. From here, the trail becomes more gradual, offering some relief after the strenuous climb.   At Zuthulphuk Gompa, we will settle into dormitory-style accommodation, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest for the night.   Trip Details:   - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 5,630m - Distance Covered: 22km (challenging trekking) - Accommodation: Shared lodge A day of perseverance, breathtaking scenery, and deep spiritual connection!    

Shiva Tsal (Shiva Sthal): A Symbolic Ritual of Transition At Shiva Tsal, pilgrims partake in a deeply symbolic act of letting go—leaving behind personal belongings such as clothing, ornaments, a drop of blood, or a lock of hair. This gesture represents the shedding of one’s past life, a spiritual rebirth, and a prayer for the end of suffering.This sacred tradition reflects the pilgrim’s desire for renewal, marking their journey toward enlightenment and liberation from worldly hardships.

 

Safety Advisory for Horse/Pony Riders For travelers opting to ride a horse or pony, it is crucial to remain alert at all times to avoid any potential risks. Important Precaution: - Do not fall asleep while riding, as this could be dangerous. - On steep and challenging terrain, especially while descending from Dolma La Pass, walking may be the safer option to reduce the risk of accidents. Prioritizing caution ensures a safe and smooth journey through the sacred landscapes of Mount Kailash!

 

Important Notice for Trekking Adjustments If you decide not to continue the trek from Dirapuk to Zuthulpuk and prefer to return to Darchen for the night stay, please inform your guide immediately so they can make the necessary arrangements. Additional Expenses: - Any changes in schedule, including accommodation and meals in Darchen, will be at the traveler’s own expense. Ensuring timely communication with your guide will help facilitate a smooth transition to your revised plan.

 

Day 12: Final Day of Trekking – Darchen to Saga

On this last day of trekking, we cover 6km (approximately 2-3 hours) as we descend towards Darchen. After breakfast, begin the journey at a steady pace, enjoying the final stretch of this remarkable trek.   Upon reaching Darchen, a bus will pick us up and transfer us to a guesthouse/hotel, where our fellow travelers will be waiting. After lunch, we set off on the long drive to Saga, covering approximately 450km. Upon arrival in Saga, relax and unwind before settling into the guesthouse for the night.   Trip Details: - Meals: Vegetarian Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Maximum Elevation: 4,640m - Distance Covered: 6km trek + 492km drive - Accommodation: 3-star equivalent hotel, shared basis  

After breakfast, bid farewell to Saga as we begin the drive toward Kerung border. Upon arrival, we cross over to Nepal.   Morning after breakfast we will complete the immigration procedures at the Tibet - Nepal border, we will drive back to Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu. Afternoon souvenir shopping and overnight at the hotel.   Altitude: 1400m Meals: B, L, D Distance: 155 km – 8 hours
